Service was exceptional that comes from a Family owned place where everyone chips in on proving the best customer care. Three different waiters came by anticipating needs. Filling up the salsa to bringing different salsas to try out when I wanted something spicier. I ordered their Fish tacos (tilapia)). It was deliciously juicy and flavorful. I was in and out within 30 minutes having a most satisfying lunch. Unfortunately they are not open during the weekends otherwise would bring the family here. BTW for those into spicy salsas, try their habanero salsa over the entrees. You may love it. They have combined the heat of habanero with the tang of tomatillo or tomatoes expertly.

Not your typical space for a Mexican restaurant. Feels a bit commercial inside and the store front is semi-inconspicuous. Don't let that deter you. I'm from out of town and came in for lunch on Cinco de Mayo. Quick attentive service getting a table during lunch rush. Food was really good. Carne Asada chipotle had great flavor, not too spicy & perfect portion size for lunch. Great salsa & refried beans as well.

Got C17. It was ready in what seemed like 30 seconds. Absolutely delicious! Not a "pretty" place, felt like my mom's kitchen.

I have been here several times but I often forget about it because of the location , tucked on a side street in downtown. The place can fill up fast and for good reason. The salsa I could just drink. It's terrific. Everything I have ever had has been awesome too. Very good service as well. This is the best Mexican you are going to get in downtown. Don't miss it!

Great Mexican food. Came to little rock for business and this place had good reviews. Closes at 2pm just made it at the end of lunch rush. Just what I wanted delicious reasonably priced Mexican food.

Ate there for lunch. Salsa was really good. Chimichanga was just ok. Service wasn't that great. There was a girl bringing by salsa and chips but no one refilled my tea until I was done with my meal. All in all it was a decent place.

The food here is pretty good. I tend to lean toward the shrimp dishes as they use nice sized shrimp. The Shrimp Veracruz is amazing, a little sweet with a bite. Tried the shrimp taco today, it was pretty good but I'm not a fan of the dressing (tasted like thousand island to me).

I've worked across the street for several months, but today was my first time at Cotija. It was busy at 12:45 pm when I arrived, but the staff was moving quickly and efficiently. I sat at a just-bussed table and was greeted immediately. The menu is a nice mix of traditional Mexican fare and some higher end ($8-$10) carné dishes. I had the carne diablas and was not disappointed. The corn tortillas were fresh and the carne and chorizo were fantastic. The salsa was also delicious, and the wait staff was always attentive. I might just have to go back tomorrow.

Pretty authentic spot right downtown. Good portions and it's not just cheese covered Taco Bell like a lot of the Little Rock Mexican joints.

Love, love, love the food and service here. I haven't had a bad meal here. The prices are reasonable too.

I've been here for lunch several times, I Luv it! You hafta get the white cheese dip. Chips are, fresh, perfectly salted and warm. I was encouraged to try #17 (I think) it has chicken, beef, shrimp, onions and peppers. Amazing! Price is reasonable. The strawberry punch...order a glass right before you leave and get it to go! They crush the strawberries every morning! Staff is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE about the menu and makes great suggestions. My to go spot for Mexican...for now.

This is our favorite downtown Little Rock place. When we come to town we try to arrange at least one lunch here. The salsa is so fresh and the chees dip is just right. All of the food is fresha and authentic. If you are in Little Rock for you need to stop in here for lunch.

A great little Mexican place in downtown Little Rock! Carne asada burrito is tasty! Servers keep the chips and salsa flowing.

In my opinion, Cotija's is Little Rock's best option for Mexican food. This isn't heavy Tex-Mex, it's more of a coastal cuisine. #Downsides: You're probably going to have to wait for a table. Adult beverages are a bit light. #Upsides: THIS IS NOT A SYSCO READY-MADE JOINT! Owners run the place and cook the food. Excellent service. Tasty goodness. Food is served super fast.

I work in downtown LR, and Cotija's is quick and convenient to my office. It also happens to be some of the best Mexican food in the LR Metro area, which doesn't hurt. Their salsa is outstanding, with lots of chunky tomatoes and onions and plenty of cilantro. Their cheese dip is also fresh and outstanding, and they are very good about making sure you are never without fresh chips. Their prices are extremely reasonable, and my favorite dish, the chimicanga, is the best in the city in my opinion. They actually fry it, unlike a lot of other Mexican places in LR, and it's filled with fresh veggies and shredded beef, almost a pot roast consistancy. Excellent. The servers are very friendly and the food comes fast, perfect for a hurried lunch hour. I reccommend going at 11:30 or 12:30 and not straight-up 11 or 12, because the place is popular and it is sometimes hard to find a table at peak hours. Excellent overall!

I've been to Cotija's for lunch twice, where I've enjoyed the comfortable easy-going atmosphere and the standard American-style Mexican food. The last time I was here, I happened to see the governor of Arkansas standing in line to pay his check in the lunch rush. The most recent time I lunched here, it took me awhile to choose my food because I didn't really love any of the combinations. Often, I like to have an enchilada and a chalupa with beans. I went back and forth a lot because I couldn't find the right combination for me, and I actually can't remember what I settled for (one of the two-item combinations, I think). I did feel a little like I settled for it, because it wasn't exactly right. My friend had a single taco a la carte. The guacamole was tasty, though, and my friend and I enjoyed an extended lunch with lots of conversation, and we never felt rushed, though the place was hoppin' and they were very busy. The service is efficient, and not overly friendly or personable. I will definitely return here, but I need to spend more time with the menu to figure out the perfect dish for me. If you are planning the dine here for lunch and do not work downtown, allow plenty of time to park. I had to cruise in widening radii around the restaurant for 10 minutes looking for something to open up.

Have eaten at Cotija's 2X, both times the service was very good, and the food was very good. The food is authentic Mex, and if you add some of their green sauce to everything it becomes very good Tex/Mex. I will contine to go there for lunch.

Have known and loved Cotija's since I worked a couple doors down at The Sports Page. Great family owned place, great food and very reasonably priced. Now they've opened a second location at the Legacy Hotel over on Capitol that has dinner hours...good news for us downtown folks!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
